Interacting with the media: Turning pain into pleasure.

MAC MAHON, J.A.*

Abstract:
Scientists worry that their work goes unnoticed, yet they are not comfortable interpreting their work for the media or decision makers. Some suggestions are given that may aid as one presents scientific findings to the media and others that need access to the data and meaning of significant research. Above all, brevity, clarity, truthfulness and a "hook" characterize good communications. Examples of success and failures will be discussed. Most interactions are actually enjoyable and important as we interpret our science for the public.
