Abstract:
I followed nesting success of Loggerhead Shrikes (Lanius ludovicianus) in Comanche County Oklahoma in 1998 and 1999. Nests were located using a rigorous spatial sampling scheme. In 1998 I found 48 nests. In 1999 I found 39. I used Monte Carlo simulation to test for spatial pattern in the distribution of nests. Nests were significantly aggregated in both years (P < 0.05), however this appears to be a function of the distribution of nest trees (P > 0.05 when nest-tree distribution is considered). This forced aggregation does not appear to affect nesting success.
