13 Ecology and Survey of important pests of stored grains from kafr El- Sheikh, Egypt. TADROS, MOSHEN1, GABRIAL, BEDOUR, 1 ABSTRACT- An investigation that lasted approximately three years was carried out at kafr El-Sheik City,140 km.to the north east of Cairo, Egypt. Its aim was to survey the most dominant occurring pests in 24 materials. We also measured population density and diversity of species, and studied control measures. Extraction took place by using batteries of modified Tullegran funnels. The recorded acarina species: were Acarus siro L., Tyrophagus putrescentiae , Lasioseius sp. Bdella sp, Chelytus malaccensis, Cunnaxa sp.,. and Glycophagus sp. On the other hand , the recorded insect species were Bruchidius incarnatus, Callosobruches maculantus, Sitophilus oryzae, S.granariusL., Monomorium sp., Pharaonis sp. ,Tribolium castaneum and T.confusum J.du val. Cereals were considered the most favored group by pests (44.56%), while the tested legumes were the least (12.26%). Zea mays was the most favored cereal by pests (11.81%), while Vicia faba was the least . Temperature and relative humidity were found to affect pest population level. Pest species diversity was different in the 24 tested materials, either cereals, legumes, or by-products; however it was higher in cereals than legumes. Malathion and actellic at LC84 at 9ppm - 34ppm.gave best results especially against T.confusum and S.granarius. KEY WORDS: grain pests, cereal pests, insect pest diversity |
