Restoring wildlands habitat adjacent to croplands to increase pollinator species richness and population stability.

NABHAN, GARY*,1, 1 Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ

ABSTRACT- Following the U.S. pollinator crisis resulting from dramatic honeybee declines in the 1990s, the Forgotten Pollinators Campaign initiated several on-farm pollinator monitoring and restoration projects. This report uses the Tubac Farm demonstration project as a case study, then discusses efforts to link corridor restoration for pollinators and carnivores to collaborative conservation efforts involving farmers and ranchers in southern Arizona. Riparian habitat restoration adjacent to farmlands appears to benefit wild pollinator species richness in this region more than other pollinator population enhancement techniques.

KEY WORDS: pollinators
