Teaching evolution and ecology using an internet based paradigm.

Mueller, Laurence*,1, Rose, Michael1, 1 University of California, Irvine, California

ABSTRACT- Information from the internet must be presented in units that can fit within the boundaries of a single computer monitor. While this can be viewed as limiting it forces one to be concise and frugal with ideas, graphics and descriptive material. We have adopted this method of presenting information into a course of material in evolution and ecology. Topics are presented as nuggets that are two page spreads of figures and text. One page typically consists of a large figure that illustrates an important concept. A second page has detailed text that is often an extended explanation of the information in the figure. Course material developed in this format can be used in both books and for computer based instruction.
