PARK, RICHARD*,1, MAURIELLO, DAVID2, WELLMAN, MARJORIE3, CLOUGH, JONATHAN4, 1 Eco Modeling, Diamondhead, MS2 paisan@toad.net, Severna Park, MD3 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC4 Warren Pinnacle Consulting Inc., Warren, VT ABSTRACT- AQUATOX is an integrated fate and effects aquatic ecosystem model that is being used for determining total maximum daily loads of pollutants and for assessing risks of existing and new chemicals. Release 2 has many features that facilitate its use: a Wizard with context-sensitive help to lead users through model setup; capability for modeling multiple stressors including nutrients, suspended sediments, temperature, discharge, and up to 20 chemicals simultaneously; the ability to determine the relative importance of multiple stressors; advanced tabular and graphing functions including risk graphs; and linkage to the BASINS GIS and modeling system. Examples of its application include: determining the effects and time to recovery for combined nutrient and organic enrichment and pesticide runoff in Coralville Reservoir, Iowa; and bioaccumulation and time to recovery for multiple PCB Aroclors in East Fork Poplar Creek, Tenn.
