Every material was kept in the acarology laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture at Kafr El-Sheikh, 140 km to the north east of Cairo, Egypt. The study lasted for 24 month, Jan 98 till Dec. 99. The 13 selected materials were: spices (anise & cumin), aromatic and medical plants, (Fenugreek, licorice, worm seed & reselle), dried vegetables (Jew's mallow & okra), dried fruits ( Figs, date palm & peanut) garlic heads and romano cheese. Pests (mites & insects) were evaluated every two weeks . Temp & R.H. were constantly recorded. Organisms were extracted by using batteries of modified Tullegran funnels for 48 hrs. Biological laboratory studies were done on Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank), a mite and Trogoderma granarium (Everts) Toxicological tests were also our aim. Results revealed in recording 36 pest species, (20 mites & 16 insects) T. putrescentiae (15.22%), Cheyletus malaccensis (Oud.), (14.5%), Acarus siro (L.) (9.91%). Haemolaelapus casalis (Berlise), Glycophagus destractor (Sch.) (6.89%) and Cheyletus eruditus (Sch.) (6.77%) were considered as most dominant mite species on the others hand, Stegobium panicerum (L.) Trogium pulsatorium (L.) and Phlebotomus spp. were the prevalant insects. In accordance with mite infestation romano cheese come first (94.11%) , then dried fruits (81.95%), followed by dried vegetables (66.73%), while spices, aromatic and medical plants come in lowest. July was the month of highest infestation in most materials. Some biological changes such as the diversity of recorded species within the 13 tested material ( Shannon- weaner diversity index) were considered. Actellic was the most toxic applied compound, followed by cascude ( IGR), while Capel 2 was the least among the 5 tested ones. KEY WORDS: surveys, populations, stored products pests |
