Stream restoration in the Pacific Northwest and beyond; National River Restoration Science Sythesis (NRRSS) Project Results. Results of these experiments in applied ecology must be shared and available to others designing projects with similar intents or in similar ecosystems, as well as to those synthesizing the science of the restoration projects. Throughout the world, internet-available, electronic databases and case studies are recognized as a solution. On a national level, the United States, Denmark, and Great Britain have created such information repositories. U.S. regional databases of have been developed for the Chesapeake Bay, Minnesota, and Arizona, and especially in the Pacific Northwest and California. This presentation provides links to those, summarizes fields found throughout, and comments on their design. The National River Restoration Science Synthesis (NRRSS) project is combining a number of these databases, along with hand-gathered project descriptions throughout the U.S. and in southeast Australia in order to understand more about the relationship between science and successful restoration and to create a unified, internet-accessible database of stream restoration projects. Trends in stream restoration across the nation will be described and compared to Australia and other countries. Preliminary results will be shared from a survey designed to assess the relationship between science and restoration, post-project evaluation, and what people are learning from river restoration projects.
