Conservation of the wetland Los Milagros as a local conservation area in the high jungle of Peru. NIQUE- ALVAREZ, MANUEL1, GAMARRA-TORRES, OSCAR*,1, 1 Universidad Nacional Agraria de la Selva, Tingo Maria, PERU ABSTRACT- The objective is to conserve this important source of fresh water; and the goods and environmental services in favor of the local community. The wetland "Los Milagros" is located in the half basin of the Huallaga river (Elevation: 690 meters above the sea level), in Aucayacu, Huanuco - Peru. (Coordinates UTM: 8988508 N and 390476 E) This seasonal wetland have 11.7 ha. and its depth is 9.0 mt in rainy season. It has been classified according with Ramsar Convention as continental wetland class, type P. Have been studied the soil, water quality, fauna and flower. The flower study reports an important biological richness (26 algae, 2 arboreal ferns and 31 superior plants). And the most abundat is Scleria sp.. Their perimeter is surrounded by abandoned cultivations of Erythroxylum coca(40%), natural forests (30%) and pasture (30%). The local population (90 very poor families) makes subsistence agriculture, shepherding, gathering of traditional fruits and fishing. In agreement with Peruvian laws: Law of protected natural areas (26834), Supreme decree 010-99-AG, Supreme decree 038-2001-AG and Organic law of municipalities the wetland "Los Milagros" can be constituted as Local Conservation Area.
