ABSTRACT- Based on the data collected from 31 plots and using the Levins,Hurlbert and Pianka formulas, and PCA, this paper calculated and analyzed the niche breadths and overlaps and classified community types in Quercus aliena var. Acuteserrata stands in Mt. Qinling, Shaanxi. The results show that the Levins and Hurlberts niche breadths of Quercus aliena var. Acuteserrata, Pinus armandi, Toxicodendron vernicifluum, Populus davidiana and Pinus tabulaeformis in arbor layer were 3.7,1.7,1.3,0.8,0.7 and 0.04,0.3,0.6,1.7,2.7 respectively, and those of Corrylus heterophylla, Lespedeza formosa, Smilax vaginata in shrub layer were 1.8,1.5,1.0 and 0.1,0.3,0.6,respectively. In general, the niche overlaps between the species with the bigger niche breath and other species were higher, and those of the species having similar environmental requirements were also higher.According to plots investigation, the arbor stratum of Quercus aliena var. Acuteserrata stands concluded two substratums. Phanerophyta synusium was in first position, and hemicryptophyta was inferior to it. The DBH structures of Quercus aliena var. Acuteserrata and Pinus armandii were sinister normal school, which could finish self-regeneration under the natural conditions. The small DBH class individuals of Pinus tabulaeformis were dominant, their DBH classes being distributed irregularly and absent very much. The large DBH classes of Toxicodendron vernicifluum took biggish proportion, belonging to declining population. Young trees were the principal individuals of Castanea mollissima, and in transitional age stage from the young to the middle. Populus davidiana was in transitional stage from progressive to stable and young-middle age stands. The stands DBH structure was mainly influenced by DBH variety of sharp-tooth oak population. Quantitative classification (wards method ward) and ordination (PCA) were used to study the community types of sharp-tooth oak. The results showed that the community could be divided into 6 types. The PCA results were consistent with the clustering, the sharp-tooth oak stands were influenced by the altitude, site gradient and soil mainly.
