Acholonu, Alex1, Watts, YaDanna*,1, 1 Alcorn State University, Alcorn State, MS ABSTRACT- This study is being conducted to find out if a pond located in the vicinity of a park or picnic area in the campus of Alcorn State University is polluted or meets the Mississippi water quality criteria. It is also intended to find out the seasonal distribution of pollutants in the pond. During the perid, September 2004 and Feb. 2005(that is,fall and winter seasons),water samples were collected in three replicates at one week intervals from the pond and from three sites about 50 meters apart. They were taken to the labratory and tested for pollutants using the LaMotte Test Kits. The parameters tested were water tempreture, turbidity, water hardness, total alkalinity, carbon dioxide, chloride, cyanide, dissolved oxygen, sulfide and pH. So far, no data have exceeded the Mississippi water quality standard. This is a preliminary study. Key words: Water quality, Pond, Seasonal distribution, Pollution |
