ABSTRACT- Ecologies ever explained biodiversity-productivity through the nutrient sustainability of ecosystem with high biodiversity based on the findings that high plant species diversity of ecosystem could result in intense nutrient absorption and the low leaching rate of soil nutrient in ecosystem and promoted the sustainable nutrient supply in ecosystem, as at last predicted productivity and stability of ecosystem. But direct test of the nutrient loss was not done at different species diversity levels at different scales. For acceleration erosion of soil on simple or complex land ecosystem at different scales has caused the primary productivity of it to drop having being generally acknowledged by the academic circles, logically, biodiversity- primary productivity of ecosystem would be verified with a roundabout way as long as there was the couple relation only of plant species diversity to ecosystem functioning about soil and water conservation. Based on the abovementioned background, the 15 flora zones of Yunnan province of China, a small watershed and the different secondary phases of semi-humid evergreen broad-leaved forest were selected as research materials in Yunnan province of China and plant species diversity was determined at great to small scales. Soil erosion areas, surface runoff, soil erosion and total P leaching were correspondingly observed with the standard runoff plot techniques and remote sensing techniques at these scales for understanding for the relation of plant species diversity to ecosystem functioning about soil and water conservation. Soil erosion areas and modules decreased with plant species diversity at flora zone and small watershed scales. Surface runoff, soil erosion and total P leaching of series plots went power function down with plant species diversity. The ecosystem functioning about soil and water conservation maintained significantly stability with plant species diversity. Plant species diversity influenced the community structures such as layers, coverage. Our experiment verified directly the inference that biodiversity conserved the nutrient sustainability of ecosystem and resulted in primary productivity of ecosystem.
