Food security and agricultural practices. A study case with in the framework of ecohealth approach. A study located in the Central Andean Region of Argentina.

ABSTRACT- Food safety problems were detected in the population within the framework of a development project impacting one community in the north east of the Province of San Juan, Argentina. The intended solution to such problems could be found in the assumption that this specific difficulty is associated to the populations agricultural and cultural practices. This hypothesis is based on information and knowledge currently available. According to the collected data, Tudcum have the following problems: migration, land ownership, access to water, unemployment and marginalization. These are food insecurity indicators, according to FAOs judgment on this issue. This study is sponsor by the International Development Research Centre IDRC, located at Ottawa, Canada. Trough IDRC the researcher had the opportunity to study in deep the community using Ecohealth Approach. This year the approach intends to work in prevention rather then problems related with Agriculture, Nutrition and Food Security issues, that is why this research is incorporating the main three elements content in the approach: Transdiciplinarity, Social and Gender, and Participatory Research. Also, as a conceptual and interpretative framework the following topics are use: cultural practices, agro-ecology, food safety and sovereignty, as well as the reciprocal relations between them. Within the general framework of the qualitative research, the field research methodology is the Participative Rural Appraisal PRA. The information tools are ethnographic techniques such as semi-structured interviews, focused groups and life stories, as well as participative observation.
SPANISH ABSTRACT- Durante la elaboración de un Diagnósitco Socioproductivo en una comunidad ubicada al noreste de la provincia de San Juan, Argentina, se identificaron problemas de seguridad alimentaria en la población, a cuya mitigación se pretende contribuir, bajo el supuesto de que éste problema específico se encuentra asociado a las prácticas culturales y agrícolas de la población, hipótesis que halla su sustento en el conocimiento y la información actualmente existente. Se ha detectado en la Comunidad de Tudcum problemas de: migración, tenencia de la tierra, acceso al agua, falta de empleo y marginación. Factores asociados a inseguridad alimentaria, tomando en cuenta la valoración que FAO realiza sobre este tema. El estudio aquí presentado es financiado por el Internacional Development Research Center (IDRC), ubicado en Ottawa, Canadá. A través del centro de investigación, la investigadora ha tenido la posibilidad de profundizar en la problemática utilizando elementos conceptuales de Ecohealth Approach. Dicho enfoque pretende influir por medio de la prevención, en problemas relacionados con la Agricultura, la nutrición y la Seguridad Alimentaria. Esta propuesta es un análisis integral que incorpora tres elementos: Transdiciplinariedad, Género e Investigación Participativa. Adicionado a esta aproximación, el marco interpretativo de los hallazgos será analizado en base a los conceptos sobre prácticas culturales, agroecología. seguridad y soberanía alimentaria, así como de sus relaciones mutuas.La Evaluación Rural Participativa (ERP), será la metodología de campo que se utilizará para esta investigación, dentro de los marcos generales de la investigación cualitativa. La información se obtendrá por medio del uso de técnicas etnográficas tales como las entrevistas semiestructuradas, grupos focalizados e historias de vida, así como de observación participante. Herramientas que serán utilitarias en función de la matriz previamente establecida.
