Medicinal and aromatic productive chain of the departament of Risaralda , Colombia. A project of collective construction for the better use of the biodiversity goods.

ABSTRACT- The Tecnological University of Pereira located in the Departament of Risaralda, liderates the proyect of the consolidation of the medicinal and aromatic productive chain from the year 2003, proposal made from the Departamental Agricultural secretary, the PNUD(United Nations Program for the development) and the Net for Social Solidarity, with the objective of managing throgh a mixed action, a chain lider in investigation, production, transformation and marketing of medicinal and aromatical plants, creating an social compromise with sustainable orientation. The investigation developed by the University, is aditionally sustained in the biocomercial proyect of von Humboldt Institute in investigation of value chaines, and the proyect of Rural Agricultural enterprise development of the International center of tropical Agriculture (CIAT), wich have implemented metodological strategies focused in the execution of a series of participative workshops, based in the principals of sustainable biocomerce, wich involve public institutions, productive asosiations, the private enterprise and local universities. As a result from these workshops ther is a strategy of competivity of the chain, atending to the necesity of fundamenting from an inchaining process, a proyection that is acurate with the demands of the sector in topics like the rescue of native species, the creation of genetic banks and demostrative piece of land, the elaboration of tecnical reports, marketing studies and the structure of costs of diferent species. The developing actions made possible the consolidation of the productive chain, while it responds to the necessities of regional developing in the field of biocommerce, giving in a substantial way the identification of marketing niche, based in quality, generation of aggregate value, and differentiation of the product, favoring the creation of incomes by rural people, in zones that like the coffee exe, have high biodiversity.

SPANISH ABSTRACT- La Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, ubicada en el Departamento de Risaralda, lidera el proyecto de consolidación de la Cadena Productiva de Plantas Medicinales y Aromáticas, desde el año 2003, propuesta gestada por la Secretaría de Agricultura Departamental, el PNUD (Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo) y la Red de Solidaridad Social, con el objetivo de gestionar a través de la acción conjunta, una cadena productiva regional líder en investigación, producción, transformación y comercialización de plantas medicinales y aromáticas, generando valor agregado mediante la asociatividad, la competitividad y el compromiso social con criterio de sostenibilidad. La investigación desarrollada por la Universidad, se sustenta adicionalmente en el Proyecto de Biocomercio del Instituto von Humboldt en su línea de investigación de Cadenas de Valor, y el Proyecto de Desarrollo Agroempresarial Rural del Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), los cuales han implementado estrategias metodológicas centradas en la ejecución de una serie de talleres participativos, basados en los principios de biocomercio sostenible, los cuales involucran a instituciones públicas, asociaciones de productores, la empresa privada y las universidades locales. Como resultado de estos talleres esta la Estrategia de Competitividad de la Cadena, atendiendo a la necesidad de fundamentar desde un proceso de encadenamiento, una proyección acorde con las demandadas del sector en temas como el rescate de especies nativas, la creación de bancos genéticos y parcelas demostrativas, la elaboración de fichas técnicas, estudios de mercado y la estructura de costos de diferentes especies. Las acciones desarrolladas posibilitaron la consolidación de la Cadena productiva, en tanto responde a las necesidades de desarrollo regional en el área de biocomercio, aportando de manera sustancial la identificación de nichos de mercado, basados en calidad, generación de valor agregado y diferenciación del producto, favoreciendo la creación de ingresos para población vulnerable de la zona rural, en zonas que como el Eje Cafetero, tienen alta biodiversidad.
