ABSTRACT- The brown algae contain chloroplast and phaeoplast. Both of them contains chlorophyll a and b and fucoxanthin pigments. Those pigments enable this kind of algae to perform photosynthesis to produce different primary and secondary photosynthetic products. Some of these products have a medicinal value. Marine algae show and posses many therapeutically effect as antibiotics, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antitumor and many others effects. In China, the alga S. fusiforme used in pharmacy for producing a cooling and blood-cleaning effect for treatment of glandular weakness. In South America, S. natans is used in medicinal preparations to cure goiter and renal disorders. Also, Sarganin A and Sarganin B posses broad-spectrum antibiotic substances with low toxic effect. S. vulgare showed hypoglycemic activity. The present investigation was taken to investigate and isolation of some photosynthetic product and the biological activity of some organic and aqueous extracts of Egyptian Sargassum latifolium (Turn.) Ag. Organic algal extract fractionated by chloroform: distilled water. The chloroform soluble extract partitioned by hexane and methanol according to Ghisalberti, E. 1993. Antibacterial and antifungal activity of different crude extracts of S. latifolium (Turn.) Ag. were carried out against some bacterial and fungal strains. Extracts were phytochemically screened using GC/MS [Finnigan MAT SSQ 7000 mass spectrometer].The results of bioscreening showed that ethyl acetate: methanol and aqueous extract possess antibmicrobial activity against some fungal strains as Geotricum candidum, Microsprum canis, Microsprum gypseum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes,Penicillium chrysogenum and Penicillium citrinum and some bacterial strains as E.coli and B. subtilis.Other extracts failed to show any antifungal and antibacterial activity. The photosynthetic products identified as piperidinoacetophenone, Pyroolidine and 2,5-di-tertButylnitrobenzene, 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid-isoocyl ester, 1-vinyl-1, 1,3,3,3- pentabutoxydisiloxane, Aspidofractinine-3-methanol and Clonitazene, Oleic acid, Hexadecanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-1,3-propandiyl ester, 1,2- benzenedicarboxylic acid-buty 2-methylpropyl ester (C16 H22 O4) and Acetamide and Isopropyl palmitate.
