ABSTRACT- In the summer of 2003, the Bulldog fire burned 12,840 ha in the Henry Mountains of southeastern Utah. In the fall of 2003 and the spring of 2004 public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and state land managed by the Division of Wildlife Resources were broadcast seeded and either chained or not chained to cover seed. Native seed was broadcast without chaining over the 7,700 ha of Wilderness Study Area (WSA). Initial seedling establishment on the WSA was patchy and more successful on sites with surface rocks to catch seeds and provide establishment microsites. Effects of chaining and seed mixes will also be reported.
