The role of the Agricultural Research Service in sustaining rangeland ecosystems. Heitschmidt, Rodney*,, Byington, Everett ,
ABSTRACT- The mission of the USDA Agricultural Research Service's Rangeland, Pasture, and Forages National Program is to develop and transfer economically sustainable technologies and integrated management strategies that are based on fundamental knowledge of ecological processes that both conserve and enhance the Nation's diverse rangeland, pasture, and forage resources. Specific to this multi-facet mission is the discovery and development of key indicators for inventorying and monitoring the ecological health and condition of rangeland ecosystems. This paper will address said research efforts at a wide array of ARS locations.
