(PS001) Advances in Molecular Imaging.
Weissleder, Ralph1, 1 Center for Molecular Imaging Research, Charlestown, MA, USA
ABSTRACT- Molecular imaging is an emerging discipline aimed at visualizing specific molecular targets and biological processes that can provide high information content for the diagnosis and assessment of cancer therapies. Merged with conventional anatomic imaging, it has the potential to provide spatially localized information on cancers such as degree of angiogenesis, apoptosis, growth rates, oxygen levels, receptor status, protease expression among others. In addition, a number of different staging probes are being developed in a effort to accurately detect metastatic spread. This session will review various topics of imaging cancer ranging from mouse imaging to clinical trials, and specifically focus on new reporters and chemistry of imaging agents. A particular emphasis will be on new developments relevant to experimental imaging, drug discovery, radiation planning and clinical imaging.
