ABSTRACT- There is increasing concern over the persistence of perfluorinated organic chemicals. Ongoing studies are being performed to determine the potential toxicological effects of these compounds. There is a need for accurate and sensitive analytical procedures to assess the presence of these compounds in biological and environmental matrices. This poster presents sample preparation techniques and analytical parameters for the analysis of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in water, bovine serum and monkey feces. The method employs solid phase extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Data is presented in terms of linearity, precision, and accuracy for each matrix. In addition to the data presented in the poster, the method has shown applicability to a variety of perfluorosulfonates and carboxylic acids from C4 through C14.

Key words: Perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, LC-MS/MS, Drinking water, Persistent organic pollutant
