ABSTRACT- Concentrations of PAHs and PBDEs were determined concurrently at several sites in Kuwait using polyurethane foam disk passive air samplers. PBDEs are a class of brominated flame retardants that are added to a wide variety of commercial and household products such as textiles, electronic items and cushioning material in furniture. Because of their similarity in structure and property to banned industrial chemicals, like PCBs, a considerable amount of effort has been diverted in determining their environmental levels in various biotic and abiotic matrices. PAHs, on the other hand, are released into the environment as combustion by-products of fossil fuels. The results will be discussed in the context of local and regional impacts on atmospheric concentrations of these compounds.

Key words: POPs, Passive sampling, Atmospheric concentration
