PT05 Atmospheric Transport and Fate (PT067) Insecticides and Fungicides in the Atmosphere in Western Canada. Hall, P1, Bailey, R1, 1 University of Regina, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada ABSTRACT- Atmospheric samples were collected during 2003 at Bratts Lake, Saskatchewan, located approximately 35 kilometers south of Regina and at Abbotsford, British Columbia in the Lower Fraser Valley. Samples were separately analyzed for particle and gas-phase insecticides and fungicides. Extractions of filters or sorbent material were completed with Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE) followed by concentration and cleanup on C18 or Florisil SPE tubes prior to gas chromatography analysis using mass spectrometry or an electron capture detector. The analysis includes screening for organochlorine insecticides (OCs), (including triallate, trifluralin, ethalfluralin), organophosphorus insecticides (OPPs), (including malathion, chlorpyrifos, diazinon) and fungicides (including captan, captafol, dicofol, folpet). Changes in sample preparation including optimization of ASE procedures and solvents (acetone, ethyl acetate, methanol, acetonitrile) and SPE sorbent and elution solvent will be discussed. Future modifications to the method, which will streamline the sample preparation, will be presented. Quantitative analysis using gas chromatography mass spectrometry is done with electron impact or negative ion chemical ionization in SIM mode. Key words: fungicides, insecticides, atmospheric sampling, GC/MS |
