El Safty, A1, Amr, M1, 1 Faculty of Medicine. Cairo University. Egypt, Cairo, Cairo, Egypt

ABSTRACT- Pesticide exposure and poisoning are commenly under-diagnosed illness allover the world. The ultimate goal of this work is to assess the effect of occupational exposure to pesticides on human cell mediated immunity and to detect the associationbetween cellular immune response and the prevalence of viral hepatitis among formulators and applicators of pesticides. This study was conducted on 80 subjectsexposed to different types or organophosphates and carbamates insecticides, also 25 control group.Full clinical examination and investigations involved full blood picture, liver functions and immunological study (CD4, CD8, CD56, IL2). Also abdominal ultrasonography was performed to all the studied groups. The most significant results were alteration of cell mediated immunity and increase in the prevalence of HBV, and HCV.,among pesticide exposed group. Recommendation concentrates on paying great attention towards the mode and duration of exposure and early manifestation of pesticide toxicity.

Key words: cell mediated immunity, pesticides, CD4, CD8, CD56, IL2, HBV, and HCV
