HA11 Life-Cycle Assessment Closing Session () Key Observations and Findings: Sustainable Production, Use and Recycling of Natural Resources Sessions. Fava, J1, 1 Five Winds International, West Chester, PA, USA ABSTRACT- Throughout the SETAC World Congress, a series of interrelated sessions was held to learn about tools and measures to enhance sustainable development of natural resources in a life cycle perspective. Presentations covered experiences with the different approaches for sustainable resource management (drivers, stakeholder engagement, impacts, verification, results, bottlenecks); research issues connected with extraction and production of resources (fisheries models, enhancement of biodiversity in farming practice, mining techniques, etc.); modeling of resource issues in the different tools (life cycle assessment, material flow accounting, comparative risk assessment, data normalization); and business case studies for integrated management of resources. This presentation will summarize the key observations and findings arising from these sessions. Attempt will be made to identify, based upon the presentations and discussions, areas of strong alignment among the speakers and participants, areas where significant differences in approach and perspective exists, and where additional research and development is needed to enhance the sustainable management of natural resources. Key words: natural resource management, life-cycle management, sustainability |
