PH06 Agrochemicals, Pesticides, Pharmaceuticals (PH060) Influence of Different Irrigation Methods And Sticker use on Carbaryl Sprayed Brassica rapa L. Edirveerasingam, V., Marutani, M, ABSTRACT- The effect of different irrigation methods and use of sticker to the pesticide was evaluated in this study. The insecticide carbaryl was sprayed at a.i.10.6g.L-1 (1.42 oz/gal) on pakchoi (Brassica rapa subsp. Chinensis) and the degradation rate of carbaryl over time was measured using a commercial enzyme linked immunosrbent assay (ELISA) kit in Guam. After the application pakchoi leaves were irrigated above from the plant canopy with 500 ml of water or at the base with the same amount. Pesticide residue on leaf tissue was examined immediately after spraying and then on days 2, 4, 6, and 8 days after pesticide application. The half-life of carbaryl on pakchoi was longer 6.5 days on plants that received 500ml of water at the base and had sticker added to the pesticide. The shorter half-life of 2 days was seen on plants that received 500ml of water on the top of the plant canopy and had no sticker added to the pesticide. Key words: ELISA, Carbaryl, Irrigation, Guam |
