T4 AM Endangered Species and Environmental Contaminants: Status of the Science (Part 1) (ODE-1117-723751) Risk Assessment for Federally Listed Species within the USEPA Office of Pesticide Programs. Odenkirchen, E1, 1 United States Environmental Protection Agency/Office of Pesticide Programs/Environmental Fate and Effects Division, Washington, DC, USA ABSTRACT- In coordination with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service (the Services), the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pesticide Programs (USEPA/OPP) has documented a process for using existing risk assessment tools to assess the potential impact of pesticide registration actions on Federally listed threatened and endangered species. The procedures, methods, and data sources outlined in this process establish consistency between OPP's ecological risk assessment procedures, USEPA's guidelines on ecological risk assessment, and the Services' conceptual model of the analytical approach for assessing effects to listed resources. Assumptions, uncertainties, data/methods, and limitations are identified, and provisions for paths forward to address these and knowledge/research gaps are established. This abstract has been subjected to review by EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs and was approved for submission. Approval does not signify the contents reflect the views of EPA, nor does mention of trade names or commercial products constitute endorsement or recommendation for use. Key words: pesticide, risk, endangered |
