(171) Scheme for evaluation of isomeric mixtures within the frame of directive 91/414/EEC.

ABSTRACT- An important gap has been detected in the European framework for the evaluation of pesticide active substances constituted by enantiomeric and other kinds of stereoisomeric mixtures. Considering efficacy, toxicity, environmental fate and behaviour and ecotoxicity of separated isomers is necessary to fulfil Directive 91/414/EEC objectives of health and environment protection. Little attention has been paid to this issue in the evaluation scheme for ANNEX I inclusion. A critical review of scientific literature and European Draft Monographs focused on environmental and ecotoxicological implications of this question is made. Finally, an decision making scheme for future evaluations together with new dossier requirements and evaluation guidelines are proposed.
