ABSTRACT- The introduction of the Integrated Product Policy (IPP) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), for the EU's sustainable development requires a large number of Life Cycle Inventories (LCIs) containing structured data about impacts of materials, processes, energy, transportation, etc., that are usually avaible with critical limitations. Moreover, tha aplication of Ecodesign through LCA by SMEs needs a simplified methodology, with specialised and validated databases for different industrial sectors, and testing new form of consultancy, for example by Internet es tewsted in the USA. Main objectives of the project are: - the analysisof the availability and structure of public information and private data for LCA (methods of collection, harmonising, updating, etc.) with the existing differences in EU countries (regulations, socio economic context); - the technical economical feasibility of a WEB site for the adoption of LCA by SMEs, including multilinguistic aspects, trialling new forms of interactive consultancy, training, benchmarking and public/private partnership; - the implementation of a prototype to test the WEB site by a case study on a sample of SMEs. The work is focused on the study of data and on how to make them available on the WEB. The simplified Ecodesign LCA methodology for SMEs is already available, but it requires adaption for the WEB. The work includes trials with case studies. The Consortium includes two large national bodies (ENEA and the Environment Agency), one from Academia (LHTEE), two small but high specialised consultants (RANDA and IFEU)and an association representative of SMEs, (ECIPAR-CNA) that will ensure a relationship is maintained with final users.
