Torres, Alejo1, Fullana, Pere2, Valles, Marta2, 1 2

ABSTRACT- The environmental consultancy Randa Group performed a Life Cycle Assessment of the pharmaceutical product DISGREN. This study was an assignment of J.Uriach & Cia, and it was supported by ATYCA program (Ministry for Energy and Industry of the Spanish Government). The Life Cycle Analysis was carried out in accordance with the International Standard ISO 14040. The life cycle inventory includes next stages: raw materials extraction, product elaboration, packaging, use and final disposal. The impact assessment has been carried out in accordance with the CML method considering the following impact categories: greenhouse effect, nitrification, acidification, ozone layer depletion, water consumption, energy consumption and solid wastes. Raw materials data were difficult to find. First conclusion of this study is that packaging has an important contribution in most of impact categories analysed. Packaging of pharmaceutical products is actually difficult to change because of regulation conditions. On the other hand, some actions can be carried on to reduce supplier's packaging.
