(362) Dutch consumer impacts for deciding on product development.

Lindeijer, Erwin1, Alfers, Anja1, Flipsen, Bas1, 1

ABSTRACT- The overall burden of Dutch consumers has been determined, using LCA studies, statistics and input-output analyses. The burden is expressed in at least energy, land use and water use, supplemented by available emission data. The division of this consumption pressure over 7 consumer domains will be presented: personal care, clothing, food, living, working travel and office life. A comparison is made with the burden of the Dutch industry and with the burden caused within the Dutch borders. Also trends and consumer related choices are identified. The results of this analysis is being used to steer the focus for sustainable product development within TNO. Additional criteria have been developed to support this strategy development.
