ABSTRACT- In the present work, we describe the titration curves and asses the buffer capacities of some forest soils in the Spanish Central Mountain Range. The factors controlling the relationship buffer capacity and soil properties were also investigate.. The buffer capacity was very closely related with the amount of organic matter. The magnitudes of these buffer capacities may be compared of those of mineral horizons typically underlying organic horizons in forest soils Buffer capacity provide an estimate of the rapid change in soil pH that could be caused by acid rain. Then the buffer capacity of soils is a index of potential acid precipitation effects, but in this region the interaction of mineral weathering and acidification needs be evaluated
Key words: buffer capacity, organic matter, soil acidity
