ABSTRACT- Extraction of marine resources causes environmental impact for which there is, at present, little data and assessment methodology. The presentation concerns results from an environmental assessment of seafood production with a life-cycle perspective and discusses the assessment of marine environmental impact for LCAs in general. The product followed through its life cycle was a consumer-packed block of frozen cod fillets originating in the Swedish cod fisheries in the Baltic Sea. Biological effects on target and by-catch species as well as seafloor impact and ecotoxicity resulting from emissions of anti-fouling agents are included and discussed. The accuracy of using traditional characterisation factors especially for impact categories eutrophication, acidification and ecotoxicity in marine studies is also discussed.
