(10-04) Linking life-history distributions to food chain dynamics in stressed environments.

Kammenga, Jan*,1, 1 Wageningen University, Wageningen, The Netherlands

ABSTRACT- Stability of ecosystems is determined by the interactions between the different species within the food web. Current model approaches allow for press-perturbation analyses aiming to identify key-stone species which contribute significantly to ecosystem stability under stressed conditions. This paper explores the role of life-history distributions for food chain dynamics. The impact of toxic stress is investigated by linking different stress levels to unique distributions of life-histories and subsequent food-chain dynamics. An example is given for a terrestrial food chain model which has been chronically exposed to heavy metal stress.
