ABSTRACT- The Llobregat stream, a Mediterranean ecosystem river (NE. Spain), has been receiving many contaminants discharges from diverse activities placed in its floodplain. Some of them have been investigated as possible ecological transgressions. Analyses to test the potential ecotoxicological effect in stream ecosystem have been performed in the Barcelona Department of the National Toxicology Institute (Spain). First, we analysed the ecotoxicological features of wastewater disposal using Photobacterium phosphoreum; second, chemical water quality parameters; and third, changes in stream biological community structure. Our work values the effects of wastewater comparing the chemical and ecotoxicological short-time effect measured in the laboratory, and long-time effect on macroinvertebrates communities, using a biological index measured on the field.
Key words: wastewater disposal, ecological transgression, mediterraneam stream, ecotoxicology
