(24-03) Comparing ecotoxicological impacts of conventional pesticides and plant incorporated protectants.
Jepson, Paul*,1, 1 Integrated Plant Protection Center, Corvallis, Oregon
ABSTRACT- An analysis of the level, duration and pattern of impact of pesticides delivered by conventional methods, and as plant incorporated protectants, on non-target invertebrates will be presented. Emphasising data from recently published field experiments, patterns of impact across guilds of predatory and parastitic invertebrates will be compared, exploring pathways of exposure and differences in susceptibility that underlie the effects that have been recorded. The potential to predict comparative ecological impacts of these wto modes of pesticide delivery will be explored, using data for pesticide use among adopters of GM technology. A model that could be used to develop predictions of impacts at the agroecosystem scale will be presented, with implications for the design of field experiments, monitoring procedures and the development of sampling strategies.
