ABSTRACT- Omniitox is a research project founded by the European Commission, which main aim is to find consensus regarding environmental tools and create a support information system that allows to improve the ecoefficiency of European industry. Different industrial sectors, represented by industries of several European countries participate in the project, among them the cosmetic industry. The project starts with the problem definition stage, where problems and needs related to the assessment of eco/toxicity impacts within ERA and LCA are studied. Then, the project follows up with the development of different case studies. The cosmetic sector case study will focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of three cosmetic products and on the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of one product. To our knowledge, ERA and LCA are very scarcely used for assessing environmental impacts of cosmetics. In the present work the results obtained in the problem definition phase of the cosmetic sector and the results of three screening LCA are presented. The screening LCA were carried out in order to have more complete knowledge of the studied systems. The selected impacts categories were Global Warming, Ozone Depletion and Acidification. The studied flow indicators were energy consumption, water consumption and waste production. In general, for all cosmetics, the manufacture of packaging material was a very impacting phase in almost all impact categories. The transport phase showed also to be a critical phase.
