(24-05) Genetically modified plants and non-target arthropods from laboratory to field: a review and critical appraisal of testing methods and risk assessment procedures.

ABSTRACT- This paper will review laboratory, semi-field and field test methods used to assess side-effects of genetically modified plants (GMP) on non-target arthropods (NTA). A critical appraisal of the these test methods in comparison with methods used in the registration process to test side-effects of plant protection products to NTAs will be presented. Moreover, risk assessment procedures currently proposed for GMP will be discussed and compared with NTA risk assessment procedures for plant protection products. Is there a lesson to learn ?
Key words: genetically modified plants, non-target arthropods, test methods, risk assessment procedures
