ABSTRACT- The coastal fauna, living in the Northern Adriatic Sea, is exposed to a wide range of organic and inorganic pollutants which originate from industrial, agricultural and domestic activities of human beings. Northern Adriatic sea is also known for its high productivity and biodiversity, it is evident that these natural resources should be strictly protected. The detection of biomarkers which are pollutant-specific can be rather useful for detecting biological damage in estuarine animals at an early stage. Data on this area are rather fragmentary, therefore we have analysed, in field and laboratory conditions, the effects of selected pollutants in two coastal species living along the Adriatic sea, the preliminary results are the subject of the present abstract.
Key words: Chemical Pollutants, Adriatic Sea, Sparus Auratus, Scapharca Inaequivalvis
