ABSTRACT- Pesticide leaching is a major source for the contamination of both surface water and ground water. A model for pesticide leaching index (Li) was developed from multiple regression. The predictor variables were the logarithm of the soil organic carbon/water partition coefficient (log(Koc)) and the logarithm of the half-life in soil (logt). Significant departures from model predictions were observed for a small number of pesticides. Explanations for the deviations from model predictions was based on the concepts of mechanism of action and baseline toxicity, which are frequently used in toxicology to model toxicity.
