ABSTRACT- The evaluation of the risk posed by different chemical substances to the environment and to human health is a priority in the EU chemical policy. Biocidal products contain active substances intended to exert controlling effects on harmful organisms by chemical or biological means. However, improper application of the biocidal products may lead to dangerous undesired effects both for man and for the environment. Being conscious that the processes and the use of biocidal products may be very specific, and that the biocidal products are applied both by professionals and non-professionals both indoor and outdoor, detailed knowledge of the biocides utilized in the private households would be essential. Data on active substances in the 23 Product Types provided by the notifiers in the Notification Process requested by the Biocidal Product Directive 98/8/EC have been analyzed. The assessment of the use pattern of notified biocidal substances on humans in private households was performed.
