(WEP/228) GLOBOX: practical results.
Wegener Sleeswijk, Anneke1, 1 CML/SSP, Leiden University, Leiden, The Netherlands, The Netherlands
ABSTRACT- GLOBOX is a model for the calculation of spatially differentiated LCA characterization factors on a global scale, differentiated on the level of separate countries and oceans. Each country or ocean has its own set of homogeneous compartments, and all countries and oceans are interconnected by atmospheric and aquatic flows. Multimedia transport and degradation calculations are largely based on the EUSES multimedia model SimpleBox 2.0, and are supplemented by specific equations to account for advective air and water transport between different countries or oceans. A preliminary version of the model is now operational. Calculations can thus be performed to produce spatially differentiated characterization factors for the LCA toxicity impact categories. Practical results will be shown for a number of chemicals. The implications of spatial differentiation for life cycle impact assessment will be analyzed and discussed.
Key words: fate modelling, spatial differentiation, exposure modelling, characterization factors
