ABSTRACT- It is well known that a number of environmental chemicals have harmful effects on wildlife and human health. However, their mechanisms are still unclear. C.elegans has been widely used as a test organism. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of environmental chemicals on post-embryonic development in C.elegans. We measured the body length, adult worm number and brood size after exposure of several environmental chemicals. Among the chemicals tested,17 -estradiol(LOEC:6.8 mg/L),benzophenone(LOEC:9.1 mg/L), aldicarb(LOEC: 19.0 mg/L) and nonylphenol(LOEC:5.5 mg/L) inhibited or interfered the development of C.elegans. These results suggest that these chemicals affect several physiological systems in C.elegans. Moreover, these findings indicate that C.elegans is a suitable invertebrate organism to analyze physiological changes by environmental chemicals.
Key words: 17 -estradiol, C.elegans, nonylphenol
