ABSTRACT- The sediment accumulation in surface water regimes (streams, rivulets, lakes, etc.) can be regarded as primary indicator of environmental pollution. The origin of contamination and its linear transport by the suspended material was investigated by means of determination of heavy metals and radionuclides in the Galga streams sediment in the north region of Hungary. These measurements were combined with hygienic screming sediments. Indentification of accumulation sites of human patogens heavy metals and artificial radionuclides (eg. Cs-137 from Chernobyle) allowed to draw some conclusions concerning on origin of pollution and its transport in the flow direction. This conclusions were supported by calculation of geological environment factors related to its values in the subsoil.
Key words: stream, heavy metal pollution, sediment, radionucledes
