ABSTRACT- The main aim of the BIOMARE pilot project is to develop and validate an integrated methodological approach based on the use of biomarkers on marine bioindicator organisms for the evaluation of the ecotoxicological risk related to the AGIP off-shore activities in North Adriatic Sea. The research activity is articulated in three phases : phase 1 - laboratory and semi-natural studies ; phase 2 - field studies; phase 3 - development and application of an applicative protocol. The main methodology used in this research will be based on the use of several biomarkers (Erod, Brod, BPMO, Reductase, AChE, BChE activities, porphyrins, vitellogenin, zona radiata proteins, antioxidant enzymes and micronuclei) and residues analysis (PAHs and heavy metals) in bioindicator organisms (Solea vulgaris, Balanus sp.) The final objective of this project is to develop a synthetic methodological protocol for ecotoxicological risk assessment of areas interested by AGIP Off-shore activities in the Mediterranean sea.
