ABSTRACT- A better understanding of the overall impact of regulations on society is a key to improving the quality of regulatory activity by governments and to improving the quality of life of its citizens - in economic, environmental and social terms, in the short- and the long-term. This session will explain the scope of IA, its benefits, and the essential pre-conditions for the successful design and implementation of IA systems. It will also compare and contrast the approaches of the Member States of the European Union, the European Union itself and third countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America.
