Adolescence and Sexuality: Discussing Health and Disease Factors with Groups of Adolescents.

Rena , Luiz Carlos Castello Branco *,1, 1 Pontíficia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, Betim, Minas Gerais, Brasil

ABSTRACT- I introduce the action-research experience carried out through workshops with two adolescent groups, in rural and urban contexts, to deal with the sexuality practice and its implications to health. The experience here reported is part of the project ′′Conception of adolescents sexuality in rural area of Goiás: consequences in the process of human reproduction′′ that also includes a quantitative research with 1297 adolescents. The pedagogical experience of the ′′Workshops′′ was the other important dimension of this project. The workshops dealt with themes concerning sexual and reproductive experiences in adolescence. The main objective of the 6th Workshop, described in this work, was to permit reflections about the relation between health and sexuality. The most relevant result was the systematization of a strategy that could permit the overcoming of a biologistic perspective and a review of heath and disease concepts and factors, offering an alternative view that recognizes the social−historical−cultural dimension of health and disease, and also identifying factors of social−political and cultural nature present in situations of vulnerability.

Key words: adolescence, health, workshop, sexuality and gender, sexuality education
