Myths, Mysteries and Realities in Oncosexology, a Practical Workshop for Sex Therapists and Clinicians.

Gianotten, Woet *,1, 1, Schover, Leslie, Krychman, Michael, 1 ISSC (International Society for Sexuality and Cancer), Rotterdam, Zuid Holland, the Netherlands

ABSTRACT- Both cancer and its treatment have an extensive influence on sexuality, intimacy and fertility. Usually sexology professionals are scared of cancer and oncology clinicians are scared to discuss sex. So many patients don′t get the proper care and attention they deserve. In this workshop we will elaborate on various relations between sexuality and cancer. Besides paying attention to aspects of biology, psychology, fertility, relationship and intimacy we will supply information on treatment and care. We expect an audience with two major groups. For people from the field of sexology we aim at making them more acquainted with the consequences of cancer and we will urge them to include cancer survivors in their counselling. For people from the field of cancer care we aim at heightening their awareness of the sexual aspects of cancer and we will urge them to discuss sexuality as a normal part of cancer care.

Key words: cancer, intimacy, fertility, oncosexology
