Valdez-Curiel, Enriqueta*,1, 1 University of Guadalajara (School of Medicine), Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco, Mexico

ABSTRACT- Introduction and objectives: Radio ADO is a project that aims to develop, test and evaluate a teen operated, radio-based Entertainment Education intervention that promotes health protective factors and prevents risk factors that widely affect adolescents living in the Mexican city of Morelia, Michoacan, and rural areas around it, all this with the partnership and collaboration of governmental and nongovernmental organizations, private business, and health and education agencies. The radio program is a Youth Development project designed and conducted from the perspective of the adolescents, presenting options for teens to maximize their creativity and develop their communications skills. Simultaneously, the show presents factual and relationship information on topics related to adolescent sexuality, growth and development, pregnancy, abortion, Sexual Transmitted Infections, HIV, AIDS, violence prevention, and peer relations. Main body/Results: This entertainment-educational intervention project has been evaluated, so far, by a baseline study, followed by one follow-up surveys, and three more that are already programmed, and focus group discussions to assess overall exposure to the show and measure its impact on the health and knowledge of the listeners, as well as its impact on their attitudes and behaviors towards protection. Adolescent surveys were also conducted in a comparison community, where no such intervention exists. Conclusions: The education-entertainment approach conducted and addressed by adolescent to reach and provide sexual education to their peers has proved to be an efficient tool to disseminate information and promote protective behaviors.
