The M2M Study: Married men who have sex with men. Hudson, Jeff*,1, Prestage, Garrett2, Turman, Bulent1, Weerakoon, Patricia1, 1 Sydney University - School of Biomedical Sciences, Lidcombe, NSW, Australia2 University of New South Wales, Darlinghurst, NSW, Australia ABSTRACT- The presentation describes a research study of Married Men who have Sex with Men (MMSM) in Sydney with a view to understanding issues, optimizing healthcare and informing the community. The project aims to understand the social, sexual and demographical aspects of Married Men who have Sex with Men, so as to guide a better understanding of this group, promote education initiatives, support and explore the risk environments. The project is a comprehensive examination of the social and health issues emphasizing the social aspects, attitudes and practices among MMSM and also describes and documents the experiences of MMSM. The project explores how socio-economical factors impact on MMSM and document data on the social context of MMSM lives and their coping strategies. It explores sexual behaviours among MMSM and identifies the frequency and extent of sexual encounters, the socio-demographic and behavioural aspects/characteristics associated with these sexual practices. The project hopes to identify the social contexts of and interactions of sexual encounters, sexual practices, sexual pleasure, partner choice and protective practices identifying attitudes, values and current levels of knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. This presentation will use a multi-media approach to emphasise the importance of the topic. It will outline the project, literature review, present brief case studies and examine recruitment strategies to highlight the issues. Key words: married, men, sex, homosexual, bisexual |
