The sexual Therapeutist Role. Sarduy Sanchez, Celia *,1, Alfonso Rodriguez, Ada *,2, 1 Centro Nacional de Información Médica, Ciudad de La Habana, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba2 Centro Nacional de Educación Sexual, Ciudad de La Habana, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba ABSTRACT- We are Therapeutists in a society where the health continues being considered as a Human Right. Therefore, our services are given to everyone requiring them. We have been questioning ourselves since 1993 if the models used for our work in the Cuban context are adequate. It is our opinion that it has its own peculiarities differentiating from the sexual therapeutic practice in the rest of the world originated in economical, religious, people rights and ideological reasons. However, we are not exempt of ideological and gender differences in our professional praxis. While one of the authors of this paper was playing the roll of principal relater during the II Workshop of Sexual Therapeutists of Cuba (June 2004), a series of questions arose regarding the theoretical and methodological aspects, as well as concerning the good practices in health. These allowed us to perform a critical analysis of our performance during more than 10 and 20 years of experience in the consultation rooms. The answers to the questions regarding where we are and where do we go; explain what we are trying to visualize. Key words: Sexual Therapeutist Role, A Polemic |
