First, it is spoken of an increase of FSD and a high prevalence of female sexual dissatisfaction; on the other hand, a question has been raised: whether is medicalization of sexuality promoving higher exigencies for female sexual response in order to be considered satisfactory and free of dysfunction?. OBJECTIVE:To explore sexual practices and sexual response of middle class women and their relation with perceived sexual satisfaction, and relationship satisfaction with partner. METHODS: An anonymous and confidential questionnaire was applied to 150 selected women at their workplace. Statistical analysis of the data includes central tendency, X2, and Student's t. RESULTS:The age average was of 38,5 + 9.1 years. For most women feeling loved and intimacy satisfaction were more important than the presence of orgasms. Less than 2% never have experienced an orgasm. Majority are satisfied with their current sexual practices, although 25% of them referred they would like to engage more sexual activities during intercourse. We found a direct relation between the frequency of orgasms and the level of sexual satisfaction. The most named cause of decreasing intercourse frequency was a low sexual effective stimuli and low sexual desire of the women or their partner CONCLUSION: It is evident that women considered of extreme importance their affective bond with their partner, and this is directly related to sexual satisfaction. The sexual response with orgasms is very satisfactory but it is not the only important factor to obtain their sexual satisfaction. Key words: sexual satisfaction, women, sexual response, sexual practices, couple |
